Edward Greenleaf was my Great Grandfather. My Grandfather was Victor George Greenleaf 1898 to 1954. I am researching my family history.Edward was actually born in 1852 in Bethnal Green London. He was in the poor house in 1860 with his older brothers Edwin and William and their Father.Edward and Edwin were fisherman.presumably apprenticed at an early age to get them out of the workhouse.Edwardand his family of 6 children lived in Gorleston but died on a boat fishing out of Grimsby. His wife bore his 7th child after he died and all the family movedto Grimsby. I presume that was to enable her to receive a pension from theFishermans Dependent Fund-but am only guessing. There is a full report in thelibrary archives of the Telegraph, of the coroners report-who advised that thereshould be more medical supplies on fishing vessels. At the turn of the centurythere were numerous Greenleafs in the area, all descendents of Edwin and Edward, unfortunately there are now none, but that is another story.
